Hailing Frequencies Open March 2023

Hailing Frequencies Open logo

We have been very happy with the crew reactions to the Seventh Fleet Bingo. This is our game we are playing for the entire year of 2023 to celebrate our organization’s 25th anniversary. Keep sending your photos into Bingo@SeventhFleet.org. We will be posting some very soon on this blog.

The crew of the USS Kelly are making plans to attend the Las Vegas Star Trek convention coming up on August 3-6. Details are still being worked out, but they would like to extend an invitation to go with them.

The third season of Star Trek: Picard has been knocking it out of the park. Every Thursday is a celebration to sit down and watch new Star Trek. We can’t wait for the upcoming seasons of Strange New Worlds, Lower Decks and other seasons that will soon be released on Paramount+.

There are a couple of you who purchased the Seventh Fleet calendar and haven’t picked it up yet. If you are missing a calendar, please let us know. The commanding officers should have the calendars for the chapter orders.

Don’t forget that we are also active on our Seventh Fleet Discord Server. We have special channels for posting your bingo pictures, memes, events, rolplaying, and even a spoiler section if you can’t wait to talk about the latest episodes. Feel free to join us.

At the Admiral’s Banquet, there was an opportunity to order custom t-shirts with various funny Star Trek sayings on them. The cost is $15 a shirt. The following designs are available by emailing valkyrie63534@gmail.com.

Thanks to all of the volunteers who helped out at our FanX booth. We were able to raise a significant amount for the American Cancer Society. Captain Joe Coleflesh of the USS Pulsar will be delivering it soon. We hope that a thank you letter will be coming soon. AT the booth was a photo op with a detailed Star Trek: Strange New Worlds transporter pad. This included sounds and a transporter effect displayed on the backdrop. The Artemis bridge simulator organized by the USS White Buffalo was also a success.

If you are checking out the organization after visiting with us at FanX, feel free to look around and ask questions. We would love to have us join the fun at one of our many upcoming activities.

The USS Delaware also successfully helped out with the Star Trek Day at the West Valley City Library with Star Trek actress Mary Rice in attendance. There were also representatives from the USS Kelly and the USS Ticonderoga.

News from Star Trek Day, Star Trek: Prodigy will release new episodes starting October 27th. Star Trek: Picard season three will premier on February 16, 2023. Carol Kane is joining the cast of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds in season two as Chief Engineer Pelia. Hasbrow is releasing a Star Trek nerf phaser rifle and phaser pistol. Yea, we didn’t do a Hailing Frequencies Open in January. The month had been so busy plus recovering from the holidays that we took it off. Not to worry, the special dates that would have been posted then will be celebrated now.

The Admiral’s Banquet had to be postponed for obvious reasons. Thanks to the efforts of the USS Rendezvous we have a new date for the banquet. It will be on Saturday, March 26th at 2:00pm. This will still be at the Richmond City facility that we’ve used in the past with the theater.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has a premier date. We will all be able to enjoy it on Paramount+ on Thursday. May 5th. We are very excited for this new Captain Pike series to come out. We’ve been really enjoying Star Trek: Prodigy and Star Trek: Discovery.

Hailing Frequencies Open December 2021

Wow, where has this year gone? It seemed like just last week was the Fourth of July celebration. All things considered, 2021 has been a much better year than (shudder) the year that shall not be named. With the help of vaccines and safety measures, we’ve been able to start having activities in person again. While we are not out of the woods yet, it is much better when we can see the members of our Star Trek family in person.

Orders for the 2022 Seventh Fleet Calendars are still being taken. The cost is still $10 an issue. To order one, get the money into your Commanding Officer no later than Saturday, December 18th. This calendar will have various fleet and chapter events listed. There is also listings for area conventions and holidays. 2022 will be the tenth year in a row that we will be publishing the Seventh Fleet calendar.

The first season of Star Trek: Prodigy is currently on break with the next episode coming out on January 6, 2022. The series has already been picked up for a second season. The fourth season of Star Trek: Discovery is currently airing with several interesting episodes so far. As of this blog post, we have not received air dates for the first season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds or the second season of Star Trek: Picard.

On a sad note, the Seventh Fleet would like to extend our personal condolences to Aaron Kehn for the loss of his mother in an automobile accident. We do not stand alone.

Please be safe for the holidays. We would like to see everyone on Saturday, January 22nd for the Admiral’s Banquet in Richmond, Utah.

Congratulations To:

Hailing Frequencies Open August 2021

August is here and it brings the close of summer before school starts. The members of the Seventh Fleet Council (the Admiralty, Commanding Officers and Executive Officers) have been working on various projects for our Star Trek family. Upcoming publications, a fan club booth at FanX, chapter banners, club awards and more. A lot of work goes into this club. It may look easy on the outside, but a lot time, energy and effort. Your help can make this club a better one. Even little things like helping with a newsletter or a website will go a long way in making your chapter a better one. If you would like to take some ownership within the club, please contact your department chief or executive officer.

We are getting very close to Fleet Day on August 7th. This will be held at Barlow Park in Clearfield, Utah. It is recommended that you bring water, folding chairs and sunscreen. We are looking forward to seeing members of our Star Trek family after the events (or lack there of) from the past year. This is one of our big fun events of the year.

Several theaters are airing a 35th Anniversary showing of Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home on August 19th. So far we know that the Megaplex Theaters and the AMC Theaters are hosing airings. A quick google search should give your information on airings near your location.

The USS Kelly will be holding a 35th Anniversary party on Saturday, September 6th at Murray Park. Come celebrate the longest running Star Trek fan club in Utah.

The USS Pulsar officially launched last year, however events (that we are all aware of) prevented an official launching ceremony. This will be rectified on Saturday, September 11th.

Fandom Creativity and You

Image of fleet creativity examples
A small example of the creativity produced by members of the Seventh Fleet.

At the official StarTrek.com website there is a very good article by Cindy Massre titled “Before Home Video, Science-Fiction Fans Worked Harder to Keep Fandom Alive” Before you read this blog post any further, take a moment to read that article. We will wait for you.

Back? Great. Admiral Stark was very impressed with this article as it aligns with some of the goals he has been promoting within the Seventh Fleet. Part of the reason we have our fan club is to keep the Star Trek dream alive. That through infinite diversity through infinite combinations life is worth while. This is why we are a “big-tent” organization instead of focusing on just one thing. You having fun with your corner of Star Trek fandom is something we want to help out with.

Do you like to create Cosplay? We want to see your costumes. The article talked about fanzines and books created by fans. As you can see from the photo above, we have many members interested in putting together art and publications. Putting together a Star Trek fan film? We’ve had experience doing that. Has Star Trek inspired an interest in science? It has with us as well. Prop building? From the hand held to the very large, we have had some experience putting these together. We have members who express their creativity through Star Trek filk songs just like the ones mentioned in the article. We love attending conventions and running booths that allow us to perform community service which requires a lot of creativity and planning. There are a lot of things we can create as fans to keep the Star Trek dream alive. Influences from the fandom of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s made their way into official publications and episodes (including episodes of Star Trek: Discovery).

There is also an added benefit from expressing our creativity for others to see. These become archives for the next generation of fandom who get a glance of what life was like for Star Trek fans at the date of publication. If you get a chance to look at your chapter’s past newsletters, you can see back into time. Admiral Stark has been trying to preserve older club newsletters and publications in PDF format so that they are easily available for all to see.

To give our members the opportunity for creativity, chapters can publish a newsletter or post articles on the ship’s blog. If your chapter doesn’t have a newsletter or a website yet, talk with your commanding officer. They are always looking for volunteers and there are those in the fleet that are willing to give advice on sites and publications. The Seventh Fleet will also be collecting the best articles of the year and publishing them in a Seventh Fleet Annual fanzine. This gives you the opportunity to display your creativity for future fandom. Currently an Issue Zero (concept publication) is currently being created and will be released soon.

What would you like to make today? Who would you like to inspire tomorrow? Let’s create.
