I’m sure you’ve heard a lot of responses from different government officials, schools, organizations and businesses regarding their response to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic. The Seventh Fleet is just as equally concerned about the health and well-being of our Star Trek family members and the community in general.
The status on meetings by local chapters will be determined by the commanding officer in accordance with local government recommendations. We would advise that you check with your commanding officer before each gathering to confirm the latest status. At this time the quarterly Fleet Council meetings and the Fleet Day (Seventh Fleet Games) in August are still scheduled. If an changes are made to these events, we will get the information out as quickly as possible.
In the spirit of our motto “We Do Not Stand Alone”, we would like to encourage you to make regular wellness checks (a phone call is recommended before any visit) with fellow members of the fleet. We have a wide variety of members that may have different needs and together we can all help each other out.
Currently the Seventh Fleet is testing out various online tools that may assist chapters and members with communication, meetings, online role-playing and other possible options. If your commanding officer elects to use one of these tools, they will let you know.
We would also like to encourage everyone to be informed of the latest news and information about this virus from trusted sources. There has been a lot of confusion about what to do and how to handle certain situations. A lot of good information is listed on the CDC website at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html
We’ve always known that real-life come before a fan club, so we thank you for taking care of yourselves. If you can’t make it to an event, if you have any concerns or just want to lay low for a while, we understand. This fan club will always be there after we have gotten past this latest challenge. Don’t think that you are letting us down if you need to take care of your health. We would rather have you here with us when the next event comes around.
Thank you for reading yet another concerned message from an organization. Remember that we are all in this together and we can help each other out physically and mentally.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled web-surfing, binge-watching, online-gaming or book reading. Don’t forget to have some fun.
