October was not kind to Star Trek fans. On Sunday, October 25 Walter Koenig passed away due to natural causes at the age of 90. He was best known for his roll of Pavel Chekov in the original Star Trek series and movies. Seventh Fleet members posted their memories of meeting Walter at various conventions and events. Here is a tribute from our friend Larry Nemecek.
And, as we were coming to grips with this passing, more bad news came out. Just three days later on October 28th it was announced that Sir Patrick Stewart, Captain Jean-Luc Picard, had also passed away at the age of 86. He was suffering from Alzhheimer’s disease and Lewy body dementia. It was a one-two punch which came out of the blue. Here is a video tribute from Sci-Fi Fanatics.
For some Fleet business, we have some news about the 2027 Seventh Fleet Calendar. Currently it is being put together and we need photos and artwork for it. Was there an event that stood out? Did your chapter get a group photo at an activity? Is there a talented member who is capable of putting together artwork that represents your Star Trek family? If so, please send it to Photos@SeventhFleet.org for submission. The bad news is the price increase for the calendar. Ever since we started releasing these in 2012, we’ve been able to keep the price at $10. Unfortunately with the economy and the cost of production and paper, the cost will rise to $12 if we can get 50 orders. The due date is December 1st to get your order into your commanding officer. Captain Ross Trowbridge is working on a new cover and we will have it posted soon.
