On Saturday, September 19th, members of the Starfleet Command’s Seventh Fleet gathered to celebrate a major milestone for one of the founding chapters. The 40th anniversary of the USS Kelly. In attendance were members of the USS Delaware, USS Ticonderoga and USS White Buffalo.
On September 1, 1986, several Star Trek friends got together and decided that they wanted to have fun with their Star Trek fandom. If other fans wanted to join them along the way, they were open to anyone who wanted to come along. Along the way, they met different Star Trek actors at conventions from Denver to Los Angeles. They tracked down the original Shuttle Galileo in the California desert. They helped provide educational and community services along the way. They even introduced fans together that grew closer and started families. In the words of Admiral Hollinger at the celebration; “It would take forty years to talk about all the things we’ve done and accomplished over the past forty years.”
In an age where an in-person fan club of any variety usually ends up petering out before its second anniversary, making it to forty years shows the dedication, tenacity and hard work that all current and past members have put into this chapter. Congratulations on making it to a 40th anniversary. Here’s to 40 more.

It’s September and there is no better way to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Star Trek then by attending a convention. The 2026 FanX: The Salt Lake Comic Convention will be held at the Salt Palace on September 24-26. The Seventh Fleet will be there.
This year our charity is the Utah Food Bank. Too many people are going hungry and we wanted to give back to the community by promoting this organization. Every $1 raised buys $7.23 in goods for those in need.
The Seventh Fleet booth will be located on the vendor floor in booth 1741 between the Photo Ops and Kidcon. We will have the Captain Kirk’s Command Chair from TOS on display for attendees to take photos in.

Also at the Seventh Fleet booth will be special guest, Mary Rice. Ms. Rice is the Star Trek actress who portrayed the young T’Pring on the episode Amok Time.

The USS White Buffalo will be assisting with the Artemis Bridge Simulator in cooperation with Starship Frontier. This will be set up in the same location as it was in 2025 which is room 151A. This event is free, but slots fill up fast.

There will also be a panel at FanX that will feature Seventh Fleet members. On Friday at noon in room 255D will be the 60 Years of Fandom-Meet the Utah Star Trek fan clubs. We will have Admirals all the way down to Crewmembers speaking about the fun they have with their Star Trek family. Come see what the excitement is all about.
The Seventh Fleet would once again like to thank Dan Farr, his staff, and his many, many volunteers who work tirelessly to put this event together. We would also like to thank them for the opportunity to fulfill our community service charter as detailed in our Mission Statement.

Star Trek is a world-wide phenomenon because of one thing. You the fans. Fans wrote to NBC to demand a second season back in the 60’s. Fans voted at the first name of the new Space Shuttle be titled “Enterprise” back in the 70’s. Star Trek conventions that started in the 70’s exploded into the 80’s and 90’s with legions of Star Trek followers. Movie openings were events that the die-hard fans attended first, and many of you met our chapters this way. In the mid 2000’s Star Trek fandom was kept alive by the fan films sweeping the internet. And in recent years all of these movements and more continue as we cosplay, write, meet at club events, talk, 3D print, role-play, podcast, draw, attend conventions, learn, create fan films, dream or just watch our favorite show.
It doesn’t matter if you were there when it started, caught the re-runs, enjoyed the 18 year run that started in the late 80’s or just watched your first Trek. If you loved it. If you wanted to see more of it. Then you are a fan. Don’t let anyone discourage you if you only like one series, or if a series isn’t for you. Star Trek is a buffet with different choices and you get to choose what’s on your fandom plate.
And all are welcome here. We don’t focus on just one aspect of fandom, but are a big tent group. If you’re excited about it, come share it with other members of the Star Trek family. Gather energy from the excitement that others have in their corner of fandom.
September marks several special anniversaries for our Star Trek family. The one that most people will know about is the 60th Anniversary of Star Trek The Original Series that premiered on September 8, 1966. Admiral Stark has sent out a question to the members of the fleet, how are you celebrating this special event? There are special presentations back in the theater, marathons and special episodes on H&I and MeTV. Special presentations in many different chapters and conventions. Go have fun on this anniversary and share with us the fun you had.
On September 1 is the 40th Anniversary of the USS Kelly. This is a major milestone that was accomplished by all of the current and past members of this proud chapter. This club was built by the members, for the members. Ideas for activities, newsletter articles, websites, club t-shirts and jackets, games and community service projects all came from the suggestions that members made. Be proud of the club you made, and feel free to make suggestions for the future. There will be many more years to come and you’ll help shape it. There will be a party held on September 19 in Murray, UT.
FanX: The Salt Lake Comic Convention is coming up on September 24-26 at the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City, Utah. And the Seventh Fleet will have a big presence there. First, we will have our booth back in club row within the vendor hall. To celebrate the 60th Anniversary we will have the Captain Kirk’s Command Chair that was built by our own Admiral Hunsaker and the crew of the USS Rendezvous. We will have a special add on for the chair this year. As per usual, we are using this to promote our community service charter. We will be raising funds for local food banks that have been hit hard in these hard economic times. The USS White Buffalo is also co-running the Artemis Bridge Simulator at the same location they did last year. Volunteers are needed for both locations. Please let your Commanding Officer know if you are willing to assist. Then on Friday, September 25th at Noon, we’ve been invited to participate in the 60 Years of Star Trek Fandom panel where several Seventh Fleet members will be talking about our organization. There will be members from Crewman to Admiral talking about their participation within the group. And, of course, we will have lots of members in their cosplay at this convention.

One of the ways that members of the Fleet can earn Leadership Promotional Merit Points is by voting in local and national elections. Voting gives us a voice in the future that we want to see come about. To vote, you need to make sure that you are registered. If you are 17 years old now and will be 18 by November 3rd, you can register to vote. If you are registered, it’s a good idea to double-check your registration to make sure it is current. And then once you’ve voted, submit it on your duty report. Remember, we don’t need to know what you voted for, just that you participated in the election process by voting.
