Hailing Frequencies Open August 2024

Hailing Frequencies Open logo

Well, if that wasn’t the most interesting Fleet Day that we’ve had in a long time. It’s not often that you can say three police vehicles showed up to one of our Star Trek events with 100 people in attendance. If you missed out, feel free to ask one of the attendees what happened. You were also missed. Many thanks to the crews of the USS White Buffalo and USS Strymon for all of their hard efforts. Despite the setbacks at the beginning of the event (that also wasn’t their fault) and the weird weather we had that day, we all had a ton of fun. Also a congratulations goes out to the USS Delaware who won the Admiral’s Challenge and gets to hold the Bragging Rights trophy for the year. We hope to see you next year at our annual fun event.

Everyone is talking about the second season of Star Trek Prodigy that was released last month on Netflix. If you haven’t seen it yet, it has been some of the best Star Trek stories seen in a while.

If you like watching Star Trek for free on PlutoTV, they will be adding a Star Trek Movies channel for the month of August. This is in addition to the three other Star Trek channels they are currently running.

FanX: The Salt Lake Comic Convention is quickly coming up in September. They have quite a few Star Trek guests announced. The Seventh Fleet will have a booth on the main vendor’s floor being conducted by the USS Rendezvous. Here we will be displaying the updated Shuttlepod Fairbanks. This will also be the 10th anniversary of the Fairbanks unveiling. The USS White Buffalo will also be running three bridges for the Artemis simulator. Volunteers are needed for both locations. If you would like to volunteer, please contact your Commanding Officer.

Feel free to join us on the Seventh Fleet Discord Server.

Congratulations To:
Josh Sorenson (USS Pulsar) for reaching the rank of Lieutenant.

Hailing Frequencies Open July 2024

Hailing Frequencies Open logo

We start this post with a sad announcement. The Seventh Fleet would like to extend our deepest sympathies to Captain Ross Trowbridge for the recent passing of his mother. We Do Not Stand Alone and may her memory always be a blessing.

Starting July 1st the second season of Star Trek: Prodigy drops on Netflix. It is twenty 20-minute long episodes. If you can, it is highly advisable to watch them sooner rather than later for two reasons. One, you get to avoid the spoilers that will be coming out very soon. Two, Netflix takes early results into consideration on renewing their shows. A strong showing will, hopefully, get us a season three.

The USS White Buffalo and USS Strymon have been working very hard on the 2024 Fleet Day. This will be held on Saturday, July 27th at Taylorsville Park and will run from 10am-6pm. This is an open event where a lot of the Star Trek family will be in attendance. Bring the kids and bring any interested parties that want to check out the local chapters. We will be having lots of fun, lunch and the annual Admiral’s Challenge after the games. We are looking forward to seeing everyone there.

We had a ton of fun at the 2024 Admiral’s Banquet. Many thanks to the crew of the USS Kelly for putting on the event. We have our Seventh Fleet Day/Games being hosted by the USS White Buffalo coming up in August. Details will be coming soon.

Spring is just around the corner and a lot of us can’t wait for the warmer weather. Don’t forget that safety should be at the forefront when you start with your outdoor activities. One of the events that the State of Utah holds every April is the Great Utah Shakeout coming up on April 18th. This is a state-wide earthquake drill that starts at 10:15 am. Information on how to prepare for this drill and how you can protect yourself from earthquakes can be found at the link just posted above.

The final season of Star Trek: Discovery will premier on April 4th on the Paramount+ streaming service. This will hopefully lead to several weeks of new Star Trek episodes for us to enjoy.

On the role-playing front, Modiphius has announced that Star Trek Adventures 2nd Edition will be premiering at GenCon coming up in August. If you are interested in hearing more about this updated game (which will be compatible with the first edition) you can sign up for the latest news on the Modiphius website.

If you are interested in being contacted by one of our chapters for membership, please fill out our Online Interest Form. We will then forward it to the chapter that you requested.

Don’t forget to join us on the Seventh Fleet Discord server. Gif-Wars has been very popular as well as sharing memes. The #Spoiler-Zone is where we can openly talk about the latest episodes (not just of Star Trek) without having to worry about spoiling it for someone who hasn’t seen the episodes yet. We also need photos of your pets for the #Porthos-Pals channel. This becoming the new online hangout.

Hailing Frequencies Open February 2023

Hailing Frequencies Open logo

So the 2023 Admiral’s Banquet was a great success. If you missed it, you missed some good food and some good times with friends. We had a chance to watch a special video from Friend of the Fleet, Larry “Dr. Trek” Nemecek congratulating the members for making it to 25 years as a Star Trek club. Many thanks to the members of the USS Valkyrie for putting together the wonderful pasta bar that we all enjoyed. Captain Ann Knowlton ran another successful silent auction and we want to thank the City of Richmond for use of their wonderful facility. The USS Kelly is hosting the 2024 Admiral’s Banquet which is tentatively planned for Saturday, January 27th. They are already working on the plans for this event.

And speaking of the Seventh Fleet 25th Anniversary, we are celebrating all year long. At the banquet we had a presentation giving us the different challenges that we are all participating in for 25th Anniversary Bingo. This was inspired by the Enterprise Bingo seen on the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds episode “Spock Amok“. To find out the details, head over to our special page located at Bingo.SeventhFleet.org. There you can see the explanations of the different challenges and how you can get credit for doing them. Don’t forget, if you post them to social media, use the hashtags of #7thFleet25 and #WeDoNotStandAlone.

The crew of the USS Kelly are making plans to attend the Las Vegas Star Trek convention coming up on August 3-6. Details are still being worked out, but they would like to extend an invitation to go with them.

The release date for season three of Star Trek: Picard is Thursday, February 16th. The latest trailers have come out and several Seventh Fleet members are really interested in watching the final season.

Congratulations To:
Eric Moorer from the USS Kelly for being promoted to the rank of Ensign.
Julie Henkes from the USS Kelly for being promoted to the rank of Lieutenant (j.g.)

Welcome to the year 2023. It is a time of excitement as the new year brings a chance for new opportunities. We are saddened by the recent lost of Captain Roger Taylor, but we are looking forward to getting together to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the founding of Starfleet Command’s Seventh Fleet.

The 2023 Admiral’s Banquet will be held on Saturday, January 28th at the Richmond City building in Richmond, Utah. Hailing Frequencies Open December 2022

As we reach the last month of the year, we look back with many fond memories. We were able to finally start getting together as a Star Trek family. We were able to attend conventions and club meetings. We are very proud of how this group stuck together and helped everyone out in challenging times. This is part of the spirit of community that we’ve been able to foster.

The due date to order your 2023 Seventh Fleet Calendar is December 18th. This is when your $10/issue needs to be delivered to your commanding officer. Remember that we need to reach a minimum of 50 calendars to get our price (which has not changed since we started doing the calendar 11 years ago).

The 2023 Admiral’s Banquet is quickly approaching. This will be held on Saturday, January 28th at the Richmond City facility in Utah (that we’ve held the banquet in the past). Since everyone liked the Noon start time at the last banquet, we will be sticking with this time for the next event. The USS Valkyrie will be hosting the event and the meal will be in the theme of a cantina. More details will be forthcoming, but mark your calendars to attend. This is one of the few fleet-wide events that we host.

And speaking of the USS Valkyrie, congratulations to Lt. Commander John Paskett who has been named as Acting Captain. Lt. Commander Seth Nielsen is now the acting Executive Officer. Captain Charles Corr is moving into a more active roll helping out the Admiralty with his Fleet Captain duties. Thank you to those leaders who have stepped forward to help out.

And finally, 2023 is the 25th Anniversary of the Seventh Fleet. This is an amazing achievement from the members as most clubs don’t make it to their second year. We plan to celebrate all year long by playing 25th Anniversary Bingo. If you’ve seen Enterprise Bingo from Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, then you may have an idea of what this will be about. The full details will be released before the official start on January 1st. But the titles of the bingo entries are as follows.

45th Rule of Acquisition
Allamaraine
Best Served Cold
Directive 927
Do you Trust Me?

Hailing Frequencies Open November 2022

Where did October go? That month went by fast. We hope everyone had a great Halloween dressing up and playing tricks on friends. Now it is time for Thanksgiving and thinking about all of the things we are thankful for.

We are now taking orders for the 2023 Seventh Fleet Calendar. Thanks to our friends at Gordon’s Copy and Print we will be able to keep our prices the same as the were since we started the calendar in 2012, which is $10 an issue. We have to sell a minimum of 50 calendars to get this price. If you would like to order one, please contact your commanding officer.

The USS Kelly is holding an auction and food drive on Saturday, November 5th. This will be at the Fiiz Drinks located at 2350 West 4700 South (just off of I-215) in Taylorsville. There will be homemade baked goods. Star Trek and sci-fi collectibles will be sold as a fundraiser (a great way to get holiday gifts).

Who enjoyed the third season of Star Trek: Lower Decks? If you haven’t seen the last episode of the season, there is an after-credits scene (dun, dun, dunnnnnnnn). The first episode of the second half of Star Trek: Prodigy season one is out and now we know the threat that The Diviner has now unleashed. How will the crew of the USS Protostar get out of this predicament? And a lot of Seventh Fleet members cannot wait to see the third season of Star Trek: Picard in February. Thankfully there are other episodes to watch while we wait . On PlutoTV, the Star Trek channel will be expanding with Star Trek: The Original Series and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine joining Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Discovery on the free streaming service.

The Admiralty, which got roped into running the 2022 Fleet Day, has been working hard on putting the event together. After our last planning meeting, I can’t wait to see how this day of games and friends turns out.

At our recent Admiral’s Banquet, Crewman 1st Class Eric Moorer was awarded the Federation Medal of Honor after his actions saved the life of a co-worker. Acting Captain Jill Bogler reported that the award was presented to C1 Moorer at the April USS Kelly meeting.

In a sad note, in May 2022 the last Starfest convention will be held. For those of you who have never heard of this, shame on you. Starfest is a convention that has been run for 45 years by the same family company (Starland). Admiral Stark called it “The Dragoncon of the west that you’ve never heard of.” The event had grown to multiple hotels and con-within-a-con festivals. Unfortunately, the events of the past to years, rising costs in getting hotel space and guests and the family growing older contributed to the decision in making this the last party. This is a shame really since these conventions were really a family reunion for the various fans of different genres and shows. We got to meet several fans who became members of our extended Star Trek family. Members of the Seventh Fleet would caravan to Denver to attend this event since the early 1990’s. Thank you to the Walker family and Starfland for all of the many memories. We are looking forward, even in sadness, to the last Starfest.

The USS Kelly will be holding it’s annual “Kelly Kampout” on July 15-17 and they have opened it up for any Seventh Fleet member who would like to attend. Contact the Kelly’s Executive Officer, Lt. Commander Dawn Woods for details.

USS Pulsar launching ceremony

The USS Pulsar was able to hold their official launching ceremony on Saturday in Utah County. The club became a full chapter in 2020, but due to the pandemic, the party celebrating the efforts had to be delayed until 2021.

Vice Admiral Carl Stark (Commander-in-Chief of the Seventh Fleet) was able to perform the reading of orders and transfer of command. Captain Charles Corr and Captain Erica Stark performed the christening ceremony smashing bottles on the hull.

As you can see from the photos, a lot of energy and effort went into the launching ceremony. There was a lot of Star Trek themed food items available for the visitors to partake in.

Starfleet Command’s Seventh Fleet welcomes the members of the USS Pulsar into the Star Trek family. May you live long and prosper and we look forward to your many adventures.

USS Kelly 35th Anniversary

In September 1986 Captain Dennis Hollinger and Commander Richard Henline officially launched the Star Trek fan club, the USS Kelly. This club is the oldest Star Trek club running in Utah and was one of the founding members of Starfleet Command’s Seventh Fleet.

Past and present members of the USS Kelly recently gathered at Murray Park to reminisce about past activities and the friendships made along the way. There was a display of past USS Kelly t-shirts (including the first Kelly uniform work by then-Captain Hollinger to launch the chapter). There was also several photo scrapbooks, copies of past newsletters (over 80 issues and counting), old technical drawings and the first attempt at the Kelly Combadge (made out of resin).

The USS Kelly had originally started as a chapter of the national Starfleet Command organization (based out of Baltimore, MD) before this parent organization disbanded in December 1997. In January 1998 the USS Kelly joined with the USS Rendezvous, USS Retributor and the USS Ticonderoga to form Starfleet Command’s Seventh Fleet.

Dennis Hollinger held the position of the first Commanding Officer. When he moved up to Commander in Chief of the Seventh Fleet, his good friend Richard Henline took over the center chair. After several years Captain Henline stepped down to take a position with the fleet and David Thalmann took command of the Kelly (called the Kelly-A). After several years David had to step down for health reasons and Rhonda Hollinger became the Commanding Officer for a few years. The former Operations Officer, Nada Linnarz then became the Captain of the Kelly-B. Earlier this year Captain Linnarz moved to St. George and handed the reigns to the current Commanding Officer, Jill Bogler.

Most fan run clubs had a habit of disbanding before reaching their second anniversary. So the fact that the USS Kelly has reached 35 years shows the testament and resilience of the members of this Star Trek family. Here is to 35 more years.

Here are some photos of past members and events.
