March is upon us and it is a period of time changes (Daylight Savings), weather changes (hello spring) and the last few episodes of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy (what a first season). Our first conventions are quickly approaching (SaltCON and Ogden-Con) and we are starting to come out of our winter blahs.

SaltCON-Spring will be held on March 12-15 at the Davis Convention Center in Layton. This gaming convention is also where the Artemis Bridge Simulator will be run by the USS White Buffalo and Starship Frontiers. If you would like to volunteer, please get a hold of Captain Aaron Stevens. Then on Saturday, April 4 is Ogden-Con that will be held at the Ogden Union Station next to the Frontrunner stop. The USS Ticonderoga will have a booth there with a Star Trek photo op. We are also looking for a chapter that would like to coordinate volunteers for FanX: The Salt Lake Comic Convention held at the Salt Palace on September 24-26. And because we’ve had several members attend the Star Trek Cruise (and post an article on it) we’ve added that to our convention calendar.

Fleet Day will be held on Saturday, July 18 in the Layton/Ogden area and will be hosted by the USS Ticonderoga. This is an open event for all families and friends to attend. More details soon.

We are looking for a host for the 2027 Admiral’s Banquet next January. We are also looking for new locations to hold the banquet at. If you happen to visit a community center, banquet hall or other gathering location that you think could hold 100 people, please find the details and pass them onto your Commanding Officer.

Thank you to everyone who attended our January 24th Admiral’s Banquet. And a special thank you to the crew of the USS Rendezvous for scrambling to find a new location after the initial site fell through. We will have some photos posted soon in the new 2026 Online Photo Album. We are now looking for hosts for the 2027 Admiral’s Banquet tentatively scheduled for January 30th. We are especially looking for possible hosting locations in different locations that are not too expensive. If you come across one that can hold at least 100 people and has kitchen facilities, please let your Commanding Officer know.

The 2026 Seventh Fleet calendars were passed out at the banquet. If you ordered one and haven’t picked it up yet, please contact your Commanding Officer.

Fleet Day will be held on Saturday, July 18 in the Layton/Ogden area and will be hosted by the USS Ticonderoga. This is an open event for all families and friends to attend. More details soon.

The month of November was a busy one for the nanites working on the Seventh Fleet website. Almost 2,700 photos were uploaded to the Seventh Fleet Photo Albums going all the way back to 1988 (before we started as a parent organization). We were able to identify most of the individuals in the photos and the events that they were taken at. But we may have messed up a few. Corrections have already been sent in (and updated). Thank you. These photos were also meta tagged by event and chapter. Thus when you click on one of the pages for that chapter, you will find a link to all of their photos (and blog posts). We want more photos from the events that you have just enjoyed as well as those from past events. Please send them to Photos@SeventhFleet.org.

With it also being December, it’s time to get your orders in for the 2026 Seventh Fleet Calendar. The publisher was able to give us a good bid so we could keep the cost at $10 a calendar. This will run from January 2026 to January 2027. Contact your CO ASAP if you would like to order one.

Another notice about December that we would like to pass along is the warning about the weather. Travel can get hazardous over the next few months, so be careful out there. Especially traveling to see friends and family for the upcoming holidays.

The Seventh Fleet Admiral’s Banquet is coming up next month on Saturday, January 24th (note, this isn’t the last Saturday of the month). It will be held in Richmond, Utah. For additional details, contact your chapter CO. This will be hosted by the USS Rendezvous.

Another FanX has come and gone and we had a ton of fun. We got to meet a lot of new friends, raise some money for a good charity and play a lot of Artemis. Not only for helping out with the booth or Artemis, but for helping out with the convention or even just stopping by to say hello to members of the Star Trek family. We truly Do Not Stand Alone. We would also like to thank Dan Farr, the FanX Staff and volunteers for all of the help they provided that allowed us to fulfill our community service charter. We also made sure to thank the police officers who were present keeping us safe at the event. Their patrols and K9 units were noticed and appreciated.

Welcome to the start of the New Star Year. We are probably hearing a few head scratches out there? New Star Year? Well as you know, the stardate is usually listed when a character is giving a log entry on the show. Well in The Original Series, and in the early episodes of The Next Generation, there wasn’t really a fully fleshed out system for the numbers to the Gregorian calendar that we use in modern times. It was a plot device to make the show seemed futuristic like warp drive and phasers. The numbers were randomly selected (but were usually higher later in the season) and there wasn’t really a pattern to them. Roddenberry attempted to explain that the stardates were set by where the vessel was at a certain moment and…. well lets just say even he didn’t know 100% how they worked. When The Next Generation was first being produced the production staff attempted to standardize them for the show. For the first season of TNG, all of the stardates started with 41xxx.x. When the second season started in September of 1988, the stardates had moved to 42xxx.x. This continued with DS9 and Voyager so that the episodes that aired after September of 1996 started with stardate 50xxx.x. So in the Seventh Fleet we adopted this as the year mark. The next two numbers after the year was the month, and the last two numbers (even with the period in them) was the day. So today’s stardate is 79080.1 (September 1, 2025). The official launch date of the Seventh Fleet is January 3, 1998 which is Stardate 51010.3. The first Star Trek convention was held on January 31, 1972 or Stardate 26013.1. Here is a quick breakdown for reference following this pattern.

September 1970-August 1980 = 24090.1 to 33083.1
September 1980-August 1990 = 34090.1 to 43083.1
September 1990-August 2000 = 44090.1 to 53083.1
September 2000-August 2010 = 54090.1 to 63083.1
September 2010-August 2020 = 64090.1 to 73083.1
September 2020-August 2030 = 74090.1 to 83083.1

We’ve had some changes in command to two of our chapters and a new chapter-in-training launched. Lt. Julie Henkes is now the Acting Commanding Officer of the USS Kelly after getting voted in by her crew, the former CO and the Admiralty. Lt. Commander Dawn Woods is staying on as the Executive Officer of the USS Kelly. The former CO, Lt. Commander Jill Bogler-Patterson and her husband, Crewman Bob Patterson are joining Admiral Stark’s staff to assist him with his duties. Captain Joe Colflesh is launching a new chapter-in-training in the St. George, Utah area. This will be the USS Roanoke NCC-74634 launched off of the USS Pulsar formerly commanded by Captain Colflesh. The Pulsar’s Executive Officer, Commander Michelle Ludeking, is moving into the position of Commanding Officer with 2nd Officer Lt. Commander Evelyn Durrant moving up to the role of Executive Officer. Congratulations to everyone on their new position.

Star Trek Strange New Worlds season three is more than half done. There have been some very interesting and excellent episodes so far. “What is Starfleet” had a very touching episode even with the documentary format. We are looking forward to the last batch of episodes as well as the new audio drama Star Trek: Khan.

Our charity for FanX: The Salt Lake Comic Convention will be R.E.A.C.H. (Raising Education Through Arts Characters and Heroes). This 501c3 charity teaches anti-bullying literacy, history and art. Every year FanX gives us the opportunity to perform our community service charter. Instead of a booth on the floor, we will be coordinating our efforts with the Starship Frontier Artemis Bridge Simulator. Feel free to come visit us there.

We are taking down our online interest form for the time being as we still haven’t been able to get it to work. As we have mentioned before, September 1st is the date we are adopting our Version 4.0 of the new rank advancement system. If you are close to earning your next rank, we are grandfathering those individuals in. Contact your CO or XO for details. Well we have a premier date for season three of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds… kinda. There will be a special premier on June 14 at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City. While an official announcement for when the series will premier on Paramount+, it is logical to assume that it will be quickly after that. New episodes are usually released on Thursday, which could indicate June 19th. For those of you who haven’t seen the teaser trailer for season three, here it is.

And speaking of video clips… we just don’t know what to think of this one.

It’s time to start planning for the upcoming games at the 2025 Fleet Day. This will be held on Saturday, July 19th from 11:00am to 7:00pm. The location is The Queen’s Realm (5451 S. 1900 W., Roy, UT). We will be having a massive indoor gaming event this year with roleplaying games, board games, tactical games, card games and more. Yes, we will have the popular Liars Dice tournament. This will primarily be Star Trek games, but other science-fiction games will be present as well (such as a Stargate RPG). Instead of being catered this year, you can bring your own lunch from one of the many restaurants that are nearby. The Admiral’s Challenge will be the last event of the day. This Fleet event is open to all members and interested visitors.

As this post is scheduled to go online, SaltCON-Spring will be happening at the Davis Conference Center in Layton. If you want to check out some gaming (and read this in time) feel free to check out the convention.

Speaking of gaming, we are looking for people to run various sit-down games for the upcoming Fleet Day in July (date TBA). We want to run all sorts of Star Trek roleplaying games, board games, card games, tactical games and anything else that sounds like fun. If you would like to assist, please contact your Commanding Officer.

Spring is just around the corner and a lot of us can’t wait for the warmer weather. Don’t forget that safety should be at the forefront when you start with your outdoor activities. One of the events that the State of Utah holds every April is the Great Utah Shakeout coming up on April 17th. This is a state-wide earthquake drill that starts at 10:15 am. Information on how to prepare for this drill and how you can protect yourself from earthquakes can be found at the link just posted above.

No news yet on when we will be getting season three of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. The moment we have anything we will post it here. If you are needing a Star Trek itch scratched, check out the latest issues of the Star Trek comics by IDW Publishing. They have several ongoing series including a new Star Trek: Lower Decks ongoing line.

Thank you to everyone who attended or helped out at the 2025 Admiral’s Banquet. It is truly a testament to the coordination and leadership skills used to put this event together so that when an unexpected item happens (say the two coordinators and their mother coming down sick) the event pulls off without a hitch. If you were unable to attend, you were missed. We had a lot of fun talking about the past year, honoring those who had passed on and looking forward to our future. The Fleet Day will be coming up this summer and we hope to see you all there for the various games that will be played.

Also the Seventh Fleet calendar was passed out to all Commanding Officers at the banquet. If you ordered a calendar, contact your CO to pick it up. We are now collecting photos for the 2026 calendar. They can be sent to Photos@SeventhFleet.org.

Have you had a chance to watch Star Trek: Section 31 yet? Remember that spoilers can be discussed in our Spoilers-Channel on the Seventh Fleet Discord server. Now if we could just get a date for the season three premier of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, that would be great.

SaltCON is a large gaming convention that is held at the Davis Convention Center every spring and the USS White Buffalo runs the Artemis Bridge Simulator there. This re-creates a Star Trek bridge with various battle simulations that a Captain and Crew can try out. This includes the infamous Kobayashi Maru scenario. Dare you take this challenge?

2024 is quickly coming to an end and what a wild ride it has been. We are certain that many members of our Star Trek family will be busy with the holidays. So remember to be safe out there when it comes to cooking and travel. The weather in the inter-mountain west can get nasty real quick.

There are only a few episodes of Star Trek: Lower Decks left. Please watch them so that Paramount knows that we want more. While this might be the last season, there is talk of future Lower Decks specials or movies.

We have a new social media account to use for communication purposes. With the rapid growth of BlueSky, we felt it was necessary to grab our username that we’ve used on other social media sites. The service has been adding a million members a day. A lot of Star Trek actors and professionals have made the jump as well including William Shatner, Kate Mulgrew, George Takei, Anson Mount, LeVar Burton, Wil Wheaton, Jeri Ryan, Robert Picardo, Michelle Hurd, Wilson Cruz, Todd Stashwick, Chase Masterson, Eugene Roddenberry, Alex Kurtzman, Terry Matalas, Mike McMahan, Mike Okuda, Larry Nemecek and many more. This is what the cover to the 2025 Seventh Fleet Calendar looks like. We still need photos and images for the monthly entries, please send them into Photos@SeventhFleet.org. Working with Gordons Copy and Print we’ve been able to keep the cost at $10 a calendar. The due date for the money to be into your Commanding Officer will be December 20th.

The Seventh Fleet Admiral’s Banquet is the anniversary of our Star Trek family that we hold every January. The USS Rendezvous is coordinating this year’s event. This year the banquet will be held in Richmond at the same location that we had some of our past banquets. This will be held on Saturday, January 25th starting at 11am. The cost for the banquet food will be $5.00, cash at the door. The food will be Dutch Oven Chicken or Pork, potatoes, salad, rolls and desert. There will be a Quark’s Bar run by the USS Valkyrie. There will be ship videos and a silent auction. Volunteers are needed for setup and take down. Please contact your Commanding Officer if you would like to help. This is a uniformed/nice-dressed event for members and their plus ones.

Well, if that wasn’t the most interesting Fleet Day that we’ve had in a long time. It’s not often that you can say three police vehicles showed up to one of our Star Trek events with 100 people in attendance. If you missed out, feel free to ask one of the attendees what happened. You were also missed. Many thanks to the crews of the USS White Buffalo and USS Strymon for all of their hard efforts. Despite the setbacks at the beginning of the event (that also wasn’t their fault) and the weird weather we had that day, we all had a ton of fun. Also a congratulations goes out to the USS Delaware who won the Admiral’s Challenge and gets to hold the Bragging Rights trophy for the year. We hope to see you next year at our annual fun event.

Everyone is talking about the second season of Star Trek Prodigy that was released last month on Netflix. If you haven’t seen it yet, it has been some of the best Star Trek stories seen in a while.

If you like watching Star Trek for free on PlutoTV, they will be adding a Star Trek Movies channel for the month of August. This is in addition to the three other Star Trek channels they are currently running.

FanX: The Salt Lake Comic Convention is quickly coming up in September. They have quite a few Star Trek guests announced. The Seventh Fleet will have a booth on the main vendor’s floor being conducted by the USS Rendezvous. Here we will be displaying the updated Shuttlepod Fairbanks. This will also be the 10th anniversary of the Fairbanks unveiling. The USS White Buffalo will also be running three bridges for the Artemis simulator. Volunteers are needed for both locations. If you would like to volunteer, please contact your Commanding Officer.
