Another FanX has come and gone and we had a ton of fun. We got to meet a lot of new friends, raise some money for a good charity and play a lot of Artemis. We would like to thank the many, many volunteers and members from the USS White Buffalo, USS Roanoke, USS Pulsar, USS Ticonderoga, USS Kelly, USS Delaware, USS Valkyrie and USS Rendezvous. Not only for helping out with the booth or Artemis, but for helping out with the convention or even just stopping by to say hello to members of the Star Trek family. We truly Do Not Stand Alone. We would also like to thank Dan Farr, the FanX Staff and volunteers for all of the help they provided that allowed us to fulfill our community service charter. We also made sure to thank the police officers who were present keeping us safe at the event. Their patrols and K9 units were noticed and appreciated.

And 2025 is now here. First things first, from your planet, welcome. Our big event for this month is our annual celebration of the founding of the Seventh Fleet called the Admiral’s Banquet. This is where the Admiralty gets to celebrate the many members of our Star Trek family. The USS Rendezvous is coordinating this year’s event. This year the banquet will be held in Richmond at the same location that we had some of our past banquets. This will be held on Saturday, January 25th starting at 11am. The cost for the banquet food will be $5.00, cash at the door. The food will be Dutch Oven Chicken or Pork, potatoes, salad, rolls and desert. There will be a Quark’s Bar run by the USS Valkyrie. There will be ship videos and a silent auction. Volunteers are needed for setup and take down. Please contact your Commanding Officer if you would like to help. This is a uniformed/nice-dressed event for members and their plus ones.

We were just informed of the passing of a Seventh Fleet member that happened earlier in 2024. In May, Dineh Torres had passed away while in care of her family. She had been a member of the USS Kelly back in 1994 and had attended several meetings and out-of-town conventions while with the club. In the photo below she is highlighted while we were at the Christa McAuliffe Space Center (a simulator that used Star Trek to educate kids). Many thanks to Erin Ruston for tracking down this information. The Seventh Fleet would like to extend our condolences to Dineh’s family. May her memory always be a blessing.

So what did you all think of the season finale of Star Trek: Lower Decks? Admiral Stark informed us that he was getting a LOT of roleplaying game ideas that could be run using Star Trek Adventures from that last episode. Remember to keep the pressure on Paramount to get a return for the show with a special, mini-series or TV movie. And speaking of TV movies, Star Trek: Section 31 will premier on Paramount+ on Friday, January 24th. It will be good to see Michelle Yeoh back in the Star Trek universe.

We have a new social media account to use for communication purposes. With the rapid growth of BlueSky, we felt it was necessary to grab our username that we’ve used on other social media sites. The service has been adding a million members a day. A lot of Star Trek actors and professionals have made the jump as well including William Shatner, Kate Mulgrew, George Takei, Anson Mount, LeVar Burton, Wil Wheaton, Jeri Ryan, Robert Picardo, Michelle Hurd, Wilson Cruz, Todd Stashwick, Chase Masterson, Eugene Roddenberry, Alex Kurtzman, Terry Matalas, Mike McMahan, Mike Okuda, Larry Nemecek and many more. Well, if that wasn’t the most interesting Fleet Day that we’ve had in a long time. It’s not often that you can say three police vehicles showed up to one of our Star Trek events with 100 people in attendance. If you missed out, feel free to ask one of the attendees what happened. You were also missed. Many thanks to the crews of the USS White Buffalo and USS Strymon for all of their hard efforts. Despite the setbacks at the beginning of the event (that also wasn’t their fault) and the weird weather we had that day, we all had a ton of fun. Also a congratulations goes out to the USS Delaware who won the Admiral’s Challenge and gets to hold the Bragging Rights trophy for the year. We hope to see you next year at our annual fun event.

Everyone is talking about the second season of Star Trek Prodigy that was released last month on Netflix. If you haven’t seen it yet, it has been some of the best Star Trek stories seen in a while.

If you like watching Star Trek for free on PlutoTV, they will be adding a Star Trek Movies channel for the month of August. This is in addition to the three other Star Trek channels they are currently running.

FanX: The Salt Lake Comic Convention is quickly coming up in September. They have quite a few Star Trek guests announced. The Seventh Fleet will have a booth on the main vendor’s floor being conducted by the USS Rendezvous. Here we will be displaying the updated Shuttlepod Fairbanks. This will also be the 10th anniversary of the Fairbanks unveiling. The USS White Buffalo will also be running three bridges for the Artemis simulator. Volunteers are needed for both locations. If you would like to volunteer, please contact your Commanding Officer.

So our apologies about the lack of an update recently. The primary webmaster who writes up the monthly Hailing Frequencies Open had a medical issue last month. Thankfully he has made a recovery and is now back in action (after following doctor’s orders). To make up for it, we will combine November and December into one post.

It is with a sad heart that we must announce that Aimee Jacobs of the USS Ticonderoga passed away in November due to complications with cancer. There was a very good turnout of fleet members at her viewing and funeral. A donation was made by both the Seventh Fleet and the USS Ticonderoga to her funeral expenses. We would like to extend our condolences to her husband, Brad Jacobs, and the rest of Aimee’s family.

Here is what the cover to the 2024 Seventh Fleet Calendar will look like. If you haven’t gotten your $10 in to buy one, please contact your commanding officer ASAP. We need to have 50 orders to get the best price for a print run. This calendar will contain photos of the various 25th Anniversary Bingo entries.

Speaking of 2024, we have a date for the Admiral’s Banquet. It will be Saturday, February 3rd in Roy, Utah. This is a uniformed or nice dressed event where we come to celebrate the anniversary of the Seventh Fleet. All members and their plus one are invited to attend. All of the January dates were booked, so we had to move to the first Saturday in February. The USS Kelly is hosting and they have quite a few items that they are looking forward to presenting. There will also be another silent auction at the banquet. Also at the banquet we will be recognizing the winners of the 25th Anniversary Bingo. Make sure your commanding officer has your credits down if you made a bingo (completed five items) or blackout (completed all items) so that we can make sure your award is present.

The USS Valkyrie is back under command of Captain Charles Core after Lt. Commander John Paskett has stepped away to take some much needed leave. The chapter is now running as a Constitution Refit class with the registry of NCC-6353. We thank Lt. Commander Paskett for his service.

For some reason, the email we have set up for the Seventh Fleet academy on the @seventhfleet.org domain hasn’t been forwarding to Commodore Marla Trowbridge, the Academy Commandant. To make sure that emails are getting to her, please use SeventhFleetAcademy@gmail.com for all correspondence. If you have sent something recently and did not receive a response, please re-send to the gmail address listed above.

Star Trek: Prodigy will be available on Netflix starting on December 25th. The last season of Star Trek: Discovery will launch sometime in April, 2024. Pre-production has started on the Section 31 movie.

September is upon us and there is a lot to celebrate with our Star Trek fandom. First is the season four premier of Star Trek: Lower Decks with two episodes for us to enjoy. Twovix and I Have No Bones Yet I Must Fleet. The first we have a good idea on, the second we will have to see. On Friday, September 8th we will be seeing a special for Star Trek Day (plus the first Very Short Treks which will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Star Trek: The Animated Series).

FanX: The Salt Lake Comic Convention is one of the big events that we look forward to each year. There are a lot of Star Trek guests that will be in attendance for us to see. The Seventh Fleet will have a charity booth on the vendor floor (coordinated by the USS Valkyrie) and the Artemis bridge simulator with Star Trek skins (coordinated by the USS White Buffalo) in one of the gaming rooms. We will need volunteers for both areas. FanX: The Salt Lake Convention will be held on September 21-23 at the Salt Palace. This will also be the last opportunity to sign The Scortch for the Seventh Fleet 25th Anniversary Bingo.

And speaking of the Seventh Fleet 25th Anniversary Bingo, WE NEED YOUR PICTURES. We will be using them in the upcoming 2024 Seventh Fleet Calendar. But we can’t pull the pictures off of Facebook because of the method they use to compress the photos. Please email them to Bingo@SeventhFleet.org.

Don’t forget that the 2023 Seventh Fleet Day is going to be hosted by the USS Pulsar on Saturday, June 24th. This will be held at Bicentennial Park in Provo. This is a family event that is open to anyone, so bring your guests who may be interested in learning more about our Star Trek family.

We’ve been contacted by FanX about our booth and the arrangements have been made. The USS Valkyrie is coordinating volunteers for the booth and the charity will be announced soon. FanX: The Salt Lake Convention will be held on September 21-23 at the Salt Palace.

There have been lots of pictures sent in for the 25th Anniversary Bingo that we are playing for the entire year. No announcement yet on who will reach BLACKOUT first. Who will make it first? Science fiction author Peter David has written several Star Trek novels and comics. We’ve had the opportunity to meet him at FanX: The Salt Lake Comic Convention. Unfortunately he has been experiencing several compounding health issues, which unfortunately have lead to several medical bills. There has been a GoFundMe set up for him and we would like to encourage anyone who can to donate.

Have you seen the trailers for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season two? All they have done is build up excitement for the upcoming season. June 15th can’t get here fast enough. If you haven’t seen the first season yet, Paramount placed all of the episodes up on their YouTube channel.

I’m very happy to type up this month’s entry for Hailing Frequencies Open. To find out why, just look at the Welcome Aboard and Congratulations To sections below. First our Star Trek family is expanding. Please make sure to help these new members feel welcome when you see them at Fleet Day coming up in June. There are also a large number of members who have earned rank advancements and medals. Your name can be on this list as well by talking with your commanding officer. They can let you know what you need to do to earn your next rank. These ranks are not just given out, they are earned through a lot of work and effort. These are something to be proud of when you pin on you rank insignia on your uniform.

It is not just club achievements that we celebrate in our Star Trek family. Real life events deserve to be celebrated as well. A special shout out (and thank you) goes to Ensign Richard Blanck of the USS Kelly. He will be taking his oath and be sworn into the Army National Guard on Monday, April 3rd. Thanks to all of the volunteers who helped out at our FanX booth. We were able to raise a significant amount for the American Cancer Society. Captain Joe Coleflesh of the USS Pulsar will be delivering it soon. We hope that a thank you letter will be coming soon. AT the booth was a photo op with a detailed Star Trek: Strange New Worlds transporter pad. This included sounds and a transporter effect displayed on the backdrop. The Artemis bridge simulator organized by the USS White Buffalo was also a success.

If you are checking out the organization after visiting with us at FanX, feel free to look around and ask questions. We would love to have us join the fun at one of our many upcoming activities.

The USS Delaware also successfully helped out with the Star Trek Day at the West Valley City Library with Star Trek actress Mary Rice in attendance. There were also representatives from the USS Kelly and the USS Ticonderoga.

News from Star Trek Day, Star Trek: Prodigy will release new episodes starting October 27th. Star Trek: Picard season three will premier on February 16, 2023. Carol Kane is joining the cast of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds in season two as Chief Engineer Pelia. Hasbrow is releasing a Star Trek nerf phaser rifle and phaser pistol. Nichollas Meyer wrote three 1-hour episodes of what happened to Khan on Ceti Alpha V. They will be released as podcasts.

Hailing Frequencies Open September 2022

September is finally here and it is a busy one. There will be a Star Trek Day on September 8th (with some fans going to the Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn in theaters), a special Star Trek Day at the West Valley City Library on Saturday the 10th and FanX: The Salt Lake Comic Convention on the 22nd to 24th of the month. Not only will we be at booth 2278 (right on the main corridor just before the celebrity autograph section) but the USS White Buffalo will be running the Artemis simulator in one of the gaming rooms at the convention. The USS Pulsar is taking the lead on the booth with the American Cancer Society being the selected charity for this year. If you would like to volunteer for either of these sections, please contact your department chief.

As mentioned above, the West Valley City Library will be hosting a Star Trek Day on Saturday, September 10th. This will run from Noon until closing and local Star Trek actress, Mary Rice, will be a guest. Because of this, we are counting this event as a Star Trek convention for rank and award purposes. The USS Delaware is taking the lead for this event but it is open for any Star Trek fan to attend.

Star Trek: Lower Decks season three is out and if you haven’t seen any episodes yet, you will love catching up. Don’t forget to watch the after show with Wil Wheaton and any of the Easter Egg videos found on YouTube. They have added to the show.

Hailing Frequencies Open August 2022

The Admiralty held the 2022 Seventh Fleet Day on July 30th at the Richmond City Building in northern Utah this past Saturday. Despite a broken foot by Admiral Stark (be careful coming down stairs) it went pretty well. We had a ton of fun talking with each other and trying out the various science and engineering experiments that made up the games. Congratulations to the USS Valkyrie for taking home the Bragging Rights Trophy. They beat out the USS White Buffalo in the final heat with the mousetrap car races.

The third season of Star Trek: Lower Decks will premier on August 24th on Paramount+. If you haven’t seen the trailer, you’ll find it on YouTube. We can’t wait to find out how the Lower Deckers get the crew back together and rescue Captain Freeman.

We don’t know where our booth will be at FanX: The Salt Lake Comic Convention, but we have been notified that our booth space has been reserved. The USS Pulsar is coordinating volunteers for this year. If you would like to volunteer, please contact your commanding officer.
