The Seventh Fleet at FanX 2025

Where you will find the Seventh Fleet at FanX 2025

Once again it’s time for FanX: The Salt Lake Comic Convention. Yes, the Seventh Fleet will be present at the event. No, we will not be on the vendor floor this year. If you look at the map above, we will be in the main hallway just outside the vendor room in panel room 151A. Both the charity and the Fleet will have a table in the hallway.

This year the USS White Buffalo will be our coordinating chapter. Room 151A will be holding the Artemis Bridge Simulator that the White Buffalo is running in cooperation with Starship Frontier. As the coordinators, the chapter also gets to select the charity for the convention which is R.E.A.C.H. (Raising Education Through Arts Characters and Heroes). This 501c3 charity teaches anti-bullying literacy, history and art.

The Seventh Fleet would once again like to thank Dan Farr, his staff, and his many, many volunteers who work tirelessly to put this event together. We would also like to thank them for the opportunity to fulfill our community service charter as detailed in our Mission Statement.

Please come visit us, learn about R.E.A.C.H. and have some fun with the Artemis Bridge Simulator. It will be an exciting weekend for all.

Additional: The nanites have completed about 95% of the website overhaul. There is some minor tweaking to perform. Coming soon are major updates on the Fleet Council page and the online Photo Albums. If you see anything that is broken or out-of-place, please let the nanites know at Webmaster@SeventhFleet.org. Thank you.

Introducing the new Seventh Fleet rank advancement guidelines

So the nanites working on the website have been doing some updates to the different sections. One of the areas that they have been able to improve is adding the information on the new Seventh Fleet Rank Advancement Guidelines. This is version 4.0.1 of the rank guidelines. Several years ago a series of different proposals came in regarding the rank guidelines that we had been using for over 10 years. We felt like it was time to review the guidelines with feedback from the Commanding Officers. These guidelines are a combination of some of the various proposals that we have received.

Starting now we will be reviewing the guidelines on a regular basis to see how they are helping our members learn and grow. As you progress through the different steps, please provide feedback to your Commanding Officer and Executive Officer. This will help us evaluate what works and what might need to be changed.

So what are some of the changes that have gone into effect?

  • There is a higher emphasis on our community service charter.
  • We now have four official tracks for rank advancement depending upon the level of participation you wish to pursue. Civilian, Provisional Officer, Non-Commissioned Officer and Commissioned Officer.
  • A time-in-grade requirement has been added.
  • The Crewman 3rd Class (members under the age of 16) has been eliminated and will soon be replaced with a new Junior Starfleet Officer Training Course (JSOTC).
  • The Academy Exam has been replaced with the Academy Basics Course in the requirements. Course 1 will cover the basics of Star Trek and course 2 will cover the basics of the Seventh Fleet. The older Academy Exam is now the Advanced Academy Exam and is optional (but still worth automatic rank promotions and merit awards with high scores if taken by a Crewman).
  • The out-of-state convention requirement has been replaced with the out-of-area Star Trek/Science road trip.
  • The Command Test required for the Commissioned Officer Track- Lt. Commander has two options. The pre-generated test by series (the current tests that we have now) or a customized test where the candidate selects two episodes per series. Ninety days later a customized test will be available for the candidate to take.
  • The full Commander in the Commissioned Officer Track will be creating merit sheets instead of passing them off. The Command rank also has Admiralty Projects instead of additional Command Tests.

The details have been broken down on the Seventh Fleet Ranks section of our website. A copy of the version 4.0.1 PDF can also be found here available for reading or downloading.

Several members have already inquired about following the new guidelines. But we are also grandfathering in those who were close to completing their next rank on the previous guidelines. If you have any questions, feel free to inquire with your Commanding Officer.

The nanites are still working on other sections of the Seventh Fleet website. If you discover a broken link or missing information, please let us know at Webmaster@SeventhFleet.org.

Let’s see what’s out there.

Online Interest Form Fixed

We were just made aware that our Online Interest Form for new recruits was not sending out messages to the webmaster to forward to the chapters. After pulling out a big hammer and threatening the servers, the form started working again and has sent several successful tests. We had never heard a computer whimper before.

If you’ve sent in a form expressing interest in joining one of the Seventh Fleet chapters recently, and you have not heard anything back, please fill out another form or email us at Join@SeventhFleet.org. We will make sure it gets to the right parties for you to be contacted.

You can also reach out to us on the Seventh Fleet Facebook page, the Seventh Fleet Discord Server or on our Seventh Fleet BlueSky account as well.

Sorry about the computer messing up. It’s promised to never do it again.

Website Updates: Interest Form, Photo Albums and more

Smile for the camera

So we’ve been working on several updates to the Seventh Fleet website. There have been some updated information posted in the Seventh Fleet Academy section and some minor updates to the Seventh Fleet Council site.

Two of the biggest changes includes our new Online Interest Form and some new Photo Galleries.

With the Online Interest Form, new recruits can send us their information that we will then pass onto the chapter of their choice.

We’ve added photo albums for 2020, 2021 and 2022. We have a lot of photos for the other years, it just takes a while to go through them and sort them all.

If you have photos of conventions, chapter events and more that you would like to send in, please email them to Photos@SeventhFleet.org

More updates coming soon.

More site updates

More work was done on the site today. We removed several old link pages (these were held over from the days when link pages were very popular on websites). Most of the links were out of date and the information on actors, writers, etc. could be found by a simple google search.

Also updated the USS Valkyrie logo and scheduled several upcoming blog posts with information on Star Trek anniversaries and chapter meetings and events. These posts will come at midnight on the date of the events. Check back for information on the fun our chapters will be having.

Work on updating the site will continue over the next week. If you see anything that is badly out of date, please let us know at Webmaster@SeventhFleet.org

Changes to the seventh fleet website

“Change is the essential process of all existence.” Spock- Let That Be Your Last Battlefield, Stardate: 5730.2

Log Entry: Stardate 72090.2, Vice Admiral Carl Stark recording. Just as Starfleet Command’s Seventh Fleet is constantly looking for ways to improve our processes and our organization, we have decided that there should be a change in the website as well. Prior to this, the home page for the fleet website was a constantly updating calendar showing the list of upcoming fleet and chapter events. This calendar can still be found on our Events page. However the main page will be used for news and discussion about the Seventh Fleet and our fandom. One of the reasons for this change is to be inclusive to those fans who do not access our Facebook page or Twitter account.

There will be other changes happening as well as time permits. Some sections of the website may look more like a cobweb site. If you have noticed anything lacking, please let us know and we can try to tackle it. There are also plans to update the chapters section to provide additional information on the interests of the chapter. Another goal is to finally get the massive photo album online for all to enjoy.

Thanks for sticking with us and reading this log entry. I can’t wait to see how we can better utilize this communications tool.

Photos from our HopeKids fundraiser are now online

Site_MaintLog Entry: Stardate 67042.6.  Rear Admiral Stark recording. Our apologies for the delay in uploading the photos.  Our webmaster caught a stomach virus from the convention and it put him out of commission for a few days.  However we are now happy to report that all of the photos taken with the shuttle Fairbanks are now posted online.  CLICK HERE TO FIND THE PHOTOS

The USS Rendezvous had build the shuttle as part of their Star Trek fan film called The Inquiry.  After they had completed filming, Captain Trowbridge of the Rendezvous recommended that we use the shuttle to also fulfill one of our other primary goals as a Star Trek fan club, helping our community.  At the Seventh Fleet Admiral’s Banquet she proposed running a photo booth with the shuttle at the upcoming Salt Lake Comic Con-FanX.  We discussed various charities and elected to support HopeKids of Utah and Idaho this year.

The fleet came together to help get the shuttle finished for the event.  Following out motto of “We do not stand alone”, members of all chapters pitched in to help.  They also helped when it came time to get the shuttle to Salt Lake (over 100 miles one-way) and especially to run the booth promoting both the fleet and HopeKids.

So we would like to give a big thank you to everyone from the fleet, HopeKids, The Salt Palace staff, Dan Farr and the Salt Lake Comic Con staff and to everyone who participated in this charity fundraiser.  Over $2,000 was raised for HopeKids and we look forward to helping them at future events.

Tally Ho!

Side Note: Some of you may have your photo numbers stating that the dates the photos will be online will be from 5-23 to 6-23.  To make sure everyone has a chance to download their photos, we will leave the photos up until 6-23.  Afterwards they will be taken down.
