Another FanX: The Salt Lake Comic Convention has come and gone. The Seventh Fleet was very well represented by our main booth with the full sized shuttle, the Artemis Simulator running two bridges and attendees in general. We had a lot of volunteers who helped at both locations and with the convention itself. Not only did we help the convention, but we were able to fulfill one of our primary missions of community service. Funds were raised for the Cache Community Food Pantry (and you can still donate by clicking on the link, please let them know that the Seventh Fleet sent you). Many thanks to the USS Rendezvous for coordinating the booth and the USS White Buffalo for coordinating the Artemis Simulator. And we couldn’t do this with out the help of Dan Farr and the staff and volunteers at FanX. Thank you.

The Seventh Fleet and Star Trek were also presented on the news at FanX. ABC4 had a presentation about the Star Trek: The Next Generation Panel. ABC4 also interviewed members of the Seventh Fleet at the Artemis Simulator. If you took pictures at the convention, please send them into Photos@SeventhFleet.org.

We are looking forward to the fifth season of Star Trek: Lower Decks that will be airing on Paramount+ on Thursday, October 24th. The first two episodes will premier on that date with new episodes continuing every Thursday until December 19th. Some of us are still crossing our fingers that there will be more Star Trek: Lower Decks in some format in the future. There will be new Lower Decks comics being released by IDW Publishing, but we’d love a series of Lower Deck made-for-TV movies (hint, hint). Hopefully if we all watch Lower Decks, the powers that be may consider it.

The Seventh Fleet at FanX: The Salt Lake Comic Convention

FanX: The Salt Lake Comic Convention is now upon us. Here at the Seventh Fleet we thank Dan Farr and the convention for allowing us to continue our mission of community service. The coordinators for our booth is the USS Rendezvous with volunteers from all chapters in the Fleet. Our booth number is 2262.

The USS Rendezvous has selected the Cache Community Food Pantry as our charity this year. The link above will take you to the donation page. If you are making a donation after visiting us, please let the Food Pantry know that you heard about them from the USS Rendezvous and the Seventh Fleet.

We continue to perform one of our main missions: “To make our future a better place by improving ourselves and serving our friends, neighbors and community.”

Some sad news greeted us on August 5th when it was announced that actress Patti Yasutake passed away due to cancer. She was 70 years old and Star Trek fans knew her best as the character Nurse Alyssa Ogawa. Admiral Stark remembered meeting her at one of the Starfest conventions in Denver where she had the biggest smile.

In some good news, production in Toronto has officially started for the next Star Trek TV series, Star Trek Academy. Actors so far announced for this new series includes Holly Hunter, Paul Giamatti, Kerrice Brooks, Bella Shepard, George Hawkins, Karim Diane, Zoe Steiner and Sandro Rosta. Mary Wiseman, Oded Fehr and Tig Notaro would be returning as their respective characters from Star Trek Discovery. One of the biggest surprises is that the holographic doctor, played by Robert Picardo, will also be making an appearance. We don’t have a release date yet, but we are hopeful for something in mid-to-late 2025 on Paramount+.

FanX: The Salt Lake Comic Convention is quickly coming up in September. They have quite a few Star Trek guests announced. The Seventh Fleet will have a booth on the main vendor’s floor being conducted by the USS Rendezvous. Here we will be displaying the updated Shuttlepod Fairbanks. This will also be the 10th anniversary of the Fairbanks unveiling. The USS White Buffalo will also be running three bridges for the Artemis simulator. Volunteers are needed for both locations. If you would like to volunteer, please contact your Commanding Officer.

Well, if that wasn’t the most interesting Fleet Day that we’ve had in a long time. It’s not often that you can say three police vehicles showed up to one of our Star Trek events with 100 people in attendance. If you missed out, feel free to ask one of the attendees what happened. You were also missed. Many thanks to the crews of the USS White Buffalo and USS Strymon for all of their hard efforts. Despite the setbacks at the beginning of the event (that also wasn’t their fault) and the weird weather we had that day, we all had a ton of fun. Also a congratulations goes out to the USS Delaware who won the Admiral’s Challenge and gets to hold the Bragging Rights trophy for the year. We hope to see you next year at our annual fun event.

Everyone is talking about the second season of Star Trek Prodigy that was released last month on Netflix. If you haven’t seen it yet, it has been some of the best Star Trek stories seen in a while.

If you like watching Star Trek for free on PlutoTV, they will be adding a Star Trek Movies channel for the month of August. This is in addition to the three other Star Trek channels they are currently running.

Many thanks to all of the Seventh Fleet members who volunteered at the FanX booth last month. We were able to accomplish our community service charter and help guide our world towards the spirit we see in the 24th century. We had a special guest at our booth, one of the artists for Heroes4Causes. This is a group that creates comic characters (and comic books) based off of real life heroes. Kids that are afflicted by Type One Diabetes, Cystic Fibrosis or Pediatric Brain Cancer. The cutouts of the Lower Decks characters were provided by the USS Valkyrie, who also coordinated the volunteers. We also had the USS White Buffalo run not just one, but two different Artemis bridge simulators at the convention.

Due to the strikes in Hollywood, there wasn’t a lot of news about our favorite franchise. The 50th Anniversary of Star Trek: The Animated Series was held. This includes the release of the non-cannon, Very Short Treks. Drawn in the animation style of the 70’s cartoon, these episodes are like mini-Saturday Night Live skits. The mileage may vary per episode. One area where the quality has continued to excel is the fourth season of Star Trek: Lower Decks. We’ve already had people ask about getting a hold of a Moopsy plushie. We also know that The Doctor will be making a return in Star Trek: Prodigy, wherever we might be seeing the next season.

And speaking of the Seventh Fleet 25th Anniversary Bingo, WE NEED YOUR PICTURES. We will be using them in the upcoming 2024 Seventh Fleet Calendar. But we can’t pull the pictures off of Facebook because of the method they use to compress the photos. Please email them to Bingo@SeventhFleet.org.

September is upon us and there is a lot to celebrate with our Star Trek fandom. First is the season four premier of Star Trek: Lower Decks with two episodes for us to enjoy. Twovix and I Have No Bones Yet I Must Fleet. The first we have a good idea on, the second we will have to see. On Friday, September 8th we will be seeing a special for Star Trek Day (plus the first Very Short Treks which will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Star Trek: The Animated Series).

FanX: The Salt Lake Comic Convention is one of the big events that we look forward to each year. There are a lot of Star Trek guests that will be in attendance for us to see. The Seventh Fleet will have a charity booth on the vendor floor (coordinated by the USS Valkyrie) and the Artemis bridge simulator with Star Trek skins (coordinated by the USS White Buffalo) in one of the gaming rooms. We will need volunteers for both areas. FanX: The Salt Lake Convention will be held on September 21-23 at the Salt Palace. This will also be the last opportunity to sign The Scortch for the Seventh Fleet 25th Anniversary Bingo.

FanX: The Salt Lake Comic Convention is one of the big events that we look forward to each year. There are a lot of Star Trek guests that will be in attendance for us to see. The Seventh Fleet will have a charity booth on the vendor floor (coordinated by the USS Valkyrie) and the Artemis bridge simulator with Star Trek skins (coordinated by the USS White Buffalo) in one of the gaming rooms. We will need volunteers for both areas. Artemis has training dates coming up on August 19 & 26 and September 2, 9 & 16. Contact your Commanding Officer and let them know that you are interested in helping. Not only is it worth points, but you can see the convention as well. This convention will be held at the Salt Palace on September 21-23.

We’ve been really enjoying Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. The crossover episode with Lower Decks dropped early much to our surprise. Instead of posting spoilers on the Seventh Fleet facebook page, we’ve created a #Spoiler-Zone on the Seventh Fleet discord server. The #Gif-Wars channels has been very popular and we have a new channel dedicated to our pets called #Porthos-Pals. There you can post pictures of your furbabies. Feel free to come join us.

When the call goes out to Star Trek fandom, the fans responds in droves. As most of you may have heard, the future of Star Trek: Prodigy is up in the air right now. If you haven’t watched this show, it may have already been pulled off of Paramount+. You can still get the disks from Amazon by following this link. There has also been a #SaveStarTrekProdigy petition started at Change.org that you can sign at this link. Talk about the show on social media with the hashtag and sign the petition. It has been a great show that has contributed to the Star Trek universe.

Science fiction author Peter David has written several Star Trek novels and comics. We’ve had the opportunity to meet him at FanX: The Salt Lake Comic Convention. Unfortunately he has been experiencing several compounding health issues, which unfortunately have lead to several medical bills. There has been a GoFundMe set up for him and we would like to encourage anyone who can to donate.

We had a great Fleet Day 2023 last month. Many thanks to the crew of the USS Pulsar for putting on a great event. This is basically our summer reunion for our Star Trek family and every chapter was represented. Don’t worry, if you missed out the USS White Buffalo will be hosting the 2024 Fleet Day next year.

FanX: The Salt Lake Comic Convention is quickly approaching. We will have a booth coordinated by the USS Valkyrie and the USS White Buffalo will be running the Artemis bridge simulator at the con. Both sections are in need of volunteers. If you are able to help out, please contact your commanding officer. This convention will be held at the Salt Palace on September 21-23.

When the call goes out to Star Trek fandom, the fans responds in droves. As most of you may have heard, the future of Star Trek: Prodigy is up in the air right now. If you haven’t watched this show, it may have already been pulled off of Paramount+. You can still get the disks from Amazon by following this link. There has also been a #SaveStarTrekProdigy petition started at Change.org that you can sign at this link. Talk about the show on social media with the hashtag and sign the petition. It has been a great show that has contributed to the Star Trek universe.

Science fiction author Peter David has written several Star Trek novels and comics. We’ve had the opportunity to meet him at FanX: The Salt Lake Comic Convention. Unfortunately he has been experiencing several compounding health issues, which unfortunately have lead to several medical bills. There has been a GoFundMe set up for him and we would like to encourage anyone who can to donate.

We’ve only experienced three episodes of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season two, but they have been AH-Maze-ing. The episodes have only continued to get better.

“We Do Not Stand Alone” is more than just a motto for the club. It is words we should live by and put into action. The commanding officer of the USS Kelly let us know that a member has reached his training assignment for the Army National Guard. Don’t forget that the 2023 Seventh Fleet Day is going to be hosted by the USS Pulsar on Saturday, June 24th. This will be held at Bicentennial Park in Provo. This is a family event that is open to anyone, so bring your guests who may be interested in learning more about our Star Trek family.

We’ve been contacted by FanX about our booth and the arrangements have been made. The USS Valkyrie is coordinating volunteers for the booth and the charity will be announced soon. FanX: The Salt Lake Convention will be held on September 21-23 at the Salt Palace.

There have been lots of pictures sent in for the 25th Anniversary Bingo that we are playing for the entire year. No announcement yet on who will reach BLACKOUT first. Who will make it first? Have you seen the trailers for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season two? All they have done is build up excitement for the upcoming season. June 15th can’t get here fast enough. If you haven’t seen the first season yet, Paramount placed all of the episodes up on their YouTube channel.

So the 2023 Admiral’s Banquet was a great success. If you missed it, you missed some good food and some good times with friends. We had a chance to watch a special video from Friend of the Fleet, Larry “Dr. Trek” Nemecek congratulating the members for making it to 25 years as a Star Trek club. Many thanks to the members of the USS Valkyrie for putting together the wonderful pasta bar that we all enjoyed. Captain Ann Knowlton ran another successful silent auction and we want to thank the City of Richmond for use of their wonderful facility. The USS Kelly is hosting the 2024 Admiral’s Banquet which is tentatively planned for Saturday, January 27th. They are already working on the plans for this event.

And speaking of the Seventh Fleet 25th Anniversary, we are celebrating all year long. At the banquet we had a presentation giving us the different challenges that we are all participating in for 25th Anniversary Bingo. This was inspired by the Enterprise Bingo seen on the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds episode “Spock Amok“. To find out the details, head over to our special page located at Bingo.SeventhFleet.org. There you can see the explanations of the different challenges and how you can get credit for doing them. Don’t forget, if you post them to social media, use the hashtags of #7thFleet25 and #WeDoNotStandAlone.

The crew of the USS Kelly are making plans to attend the Las Vegas Star Trek convention coming up on August 3-6. Details are still being worked out, but they would like to extend an invitation to go with them.

The release date for season three of Star Trek: Picard is Thursday, February 16th. The latest trailers have come out and several Seventh Fleet members are really interested in watching the final season.
