Hailing Frequencies Open January 2025

And 2025 is now here. First things first, from your planet, welcome. Our big event for this month is our annual celebration of the founding of the Seventh Fleet called the Admiral’s Banquet. This is where the Admiralty gets to celebrate the many members of our Star Trek family. The USS Rendezvous is coordinating this year’s event. This year the banquet will be held in Richmond at the same location that we had some of our past banquets. This will be held on Saturday, January 25th starting at 11am. The cost for the banquet food will be $5.00, cash at the door. The food will be Dutch Oven Chicken or Pork, potatoes, salad, rolls and desert. There will be a Quark’s Bar run by the USS Valkyrie. There will be ship videos and a silent auction. Volunteers are needed for setup and take down. Please contact your Commanding Officer if you would like to help. This is a uniformed/nice-dressed event for members and their plus ones.

We were just informed of the passing of a Seventh Fleet member that happened earlier in 2024. In May, Dineh Torres had passed away while in care of her family. She had been a member of the USS Kelly back in 1994 and had attended several meetings and out-of-town conventions while with the club. In the photo below she is highlighted while we were at the Christa McAuliffe Space Center (a simulator that used Star Trek to educate kids). Many thanks to Erin Ruston for tracking down this information. The Seventh Fleet would like to extend our condolences to Dineh’s family. May her memory always be a blessing.

So what did you all think of the season finale of Star Trek: Lower Decks? Admiral Stark informed us that he was getting a LOT of roleplaying game ideas that could be run using Star Trek Adventures from that last episode. Remember to keep the pressure on Paramount to get a return for the show with a special, mini-series or TV movie. And speaking of TV movies, Star Trek: Section 31 will premier on Paramount+ on Friday, January 24th. It will be good to see Michelle Yeoh back in the Star Trek universe.

We have a new social media account to use for communication purposes. With the rapid growth of BlueSky, we felt it was necessary to grab our username that we’ve used on other social media sites. The service has been adding a million members a day. A lot of Star Trek actors and professionals have made the jump as well including William Shatner, Kate Mulgrew, George Takei, Anson Mount, LeVar Burton, Wil Wheaton, Jeri Ryan, Robert Picardo, Michelle Hurd, Wilson Cruz, Todd Stashwick, Chase Masterson, Eugene Roddenberry, Alex Kurtzman, Terry Matalas, Mike McMahan, Mike Okuda, Larry Nemecek and many more. Hailing Frequencies Open November/December 2023

So our apologies about the lack of an update recently. The primary webmaster who writes up the monthly Hailing Frequencies Open had a medical issue last month. Thankfully he has made a recovery and is now back in action (after following doctor’s orders). To make up for it, we will combine November and December into one post.

It is with a sad heart that we must announce that Aimee Jacobs of the USS Ticonderoga passed away in November due to complications with cancer. There was a very good turnout of fleet members at her viewing and funeral. A donation was made by both the Seventh Fleet and the USS Ticonderoga to her funeral expenses. We would like to extend our condolences to her husband, Brad Jacobs, and the rest of Aimee’s family.

Here is what the cover to the 2024 Seventh Fleet Calendar will look like. If you haven’t gotten your $10 in to buy one, please contact your commanding officer ASAP. We need to have 50 orders to get the best price for a print run. This calendar will contain photos of the various 25th Anniversary Bingo entries.

Speaking of 2024, we have a date for the Admiral’s Banquet. It will be Saturday, February 3rd in Roy, Utah. This is a uniformed or nice dressed event where we come to celebrate the anniversary of the Seventh Fleet. All members and their plus one are invited to attend. All of the January dates were booked, so we had to move to the first Saturday in February. The USS Kelly is hosting and they have quite a few items that they are looking forward to presenting. There will also be another silent auction at the banquet. Also at the banquet we will be recognizing the winners of the 25th Anniversary Bingo. Make sure your commanding officer has your credits down if you made a bingo (completed five items) or blackout (completed all items) so that we can make sure your award is present.

The USS Valkyrie is back under command of Captain Charles Core after Lt. Commander John Paskett has stepped away to take some much needed leave. The chapter is now running as a Constitution Refit class with the registry of NCC-6353. We thank Lt. Commander Paskett for his service.

For some reason, the email we have set up for the Seventh Fleet academy on the @seventhfleet.org domain hasn’t been forwarding to Commodore Marla Trowbridge, the Academy Commandant. To make sure that emails are getting to her, please use SeventhFleetAcademy@gmail.com for all correspondence. If you have sent something recently and did not receive a response, please re-send to the gmail address listed above.

Star Trek: Prodigy will be available on Netflix starting on December 25th. The last season of Star Trek: Discovery will launch sometime in April, 2024. Pre-production has started on the Section 31 movie.

Hailing Frequencies Open July 2023

We had a great Fleet Day 2023 last month. Many thanks to the crew of the USS Pulsar for putting on a great event. This is basically our summer reunion for our Star Trek family and every chapter was represented. Don’t worry, if you missed out the USS White Buffalo will be hosting the 2024 Fleet Day next year.

FanX: The Salt Lake Comic Convention is quickly approaching. We will have a booth coordinated by the USS Valkyrie and the USS White Buffalo will be running the Artemis bridge simulator at the con. Both sections are in need of volunteers. If you are able to help out, please contact your commanding officer. This convention will be held at the Salt Palace on September 21-23.

When the call goes out to Star Trek fandom, the fans responds in droves. As most of you may have heard, the future of Star Trek: Prodigy is up in the air right now. If you haven’t watched this show, it may have already been pulled off of Paramount+. You can still get the disks from Amazon by following this link. There has also been a #SaveStarTrekProdigy petition started at Change.org that you can sign at this link. Talk about the show on social media with the hashtag and sign the petition. It has been a great show that has contributed to the Star Trek universe.

Science fiction author Peter David has written several Star Trek novels and comics. We’ve had the opportunity to meet him at FanX: The Salt Lake Comic Convention. Unfortunately he has been experiencing several compounding health issues, which unfortunately have lead to several medical bills. There has been a GoFundMe set up for him and we would like to encourage anyone who can to donate.

We’ve only experienced three episodes of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season two, but they have been AH-Maze-ing. The episodes have only continued to get better.

We’ve been contacted by FanX about our booth and the arrangements have been made. The USS Valkyrie is coordinating volunteers for the booth and the charity will be announced soon. FanX: The Salt Lake Convention will be held on September 21-23 at the Salt Palace.

There have been lots of pictures sent in for the 25th Anniversary Bingo that we are playing for the entire year. No announcement yet on who will reach BLACKOUT first. Who will make it first? Keep sending your photos into Bingo@SeventhFleet.org. We love seeing the excitement in the crew this celebration has generated.

Have you seen the trailers for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season two? All they have done is build up excitement for the upcoming season. June 15th can’t get here fast enough. If you haven’t seen the first season yet, Paramount placed all of the episodes up on their YouTube channel.

What an ending to Star Trek: Picard. Wow! To all of the actors, writers and production personnel we just want to say “Very well done!” If you haven’t seen it yet, we won’t spoil anything for you, but go see it sooner than later. There were a lot of things that we were not expecting. There was a lot of closure and happy moments. Thank you to everyone who worked on this series. Hopefully we will see the (rumored) spin-off that everyone wants to see. Hint: Sign the petition.

If you are missing new Star Trek on Paramount+, you won’t have to wait very much longer. Season two of the very well done (and Bingo inspiring) Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will be released on Thursday, June 15th.

And speaking of future events, the USS Pulsar is beyond excited to host the 2023 Seventh Fleet Day on Saturday, June 24th. This will be held in Utah County at a park in Springville. I’m very happy to type up this month’s entry for Hailing Frequencies Open. To find out why, just look at the Welcome Aboard and Congratulations To sections below. First our Star Trek family is expanding. Please make sure to help these new members feel welcome when you see them at Fleet Day coming up in June. There are also a large number of members who have earned rank advancements and medals. Your name can be on this list as well by talking with your commanding officer. They can let you know what you need to do to earn your next rank. These ranks are not just given out, they are earned through a lot of work and effort. These are something to be proud of when you pin on you rank insignia on your uniform.

It is not just club achievements that we celebrate in our Star Trek family. Real life events deserve to be celebrated as well. A special shout out (and thank you) goes to Ensign Richard Blanck of the USS Kelly. He will be taking his oath and be sworn into the Army National Guard on Monday, April 3rd. Thank you for your service. If you have an announcement that you would like to have posted here, just let your commanding officer know.

We have had several members of the USS Rendezvous confirm that they have reached BINGO in the 25th Anniversary Bingo that we are playing for the entire year. No announcement yet on who will reach BLACKOUT first. Who will make it first? Keep sending your photos into Bingo@SeventhFleet.org.

If you are not watching Star Trek: Picard season three, go watch it now. This season has been hitting all of the emotional highs and we can’t wait to see where this will end up. It is rumored that some of the characters may be spun off into a new series called Star Trek: Legacy.

We have been very happy with the crew reactions to the Seventh Fleet Bingo. This is our game we are playing for the entire year of 2023 to celebrate our organization’s 25th anniversary. Keep sending your photos into Bingo@SeventhFleet.org. We will be posting some very soon on this blog.

The crew of the USS Kelly are making plans to attend the Las Vegas Star Trek convention coming up on August 3-6. Details are still being worked out, but they would like to extend an invitation to go with them.

The third season of Star Trek: Picard has been knocking it out of the park. Every Thursday is a celebration to sit down and watch new Star Trek. We can’t wait for the upcoming seasons of Strange New Worlds, Lower Decks and other seasons that will soon be released on Paramount+.

There are a couple of you who purchased the Seventh Fleet calendar and haven’t picked it up yet. If you are missing a calendar, please let us know. The commanding officers should have the calendars for the chapter orders.

Don’t forget that we are also active on our Seventh Fleet Discord Server. We have special channels for posting your bingo pictures, memes, events, rolplaying, and even a spoiler section if you can’t wait to talk about the latest episodes. Feel free to join us.

So the 2023 Admiral’s Banquet was a great success. If you missed it, you missed some good food and some good times with friends. We had a chance to watch a special video from Friend of the Fleet, Larry “Dr. Trek” Nemecek congratulating the members for making it to 25 years as a Star Trek club. Many thanks to the members of the USS Valkyrie for putting together the wonderful pasta bar that we all enjoyed. Captain Ann Knowlton ran another successful silent auction and we want to thank the City of Richmond for use of their wonderful facility. The USS Kelly is hosting the 2024 Admiral’s Banquet which is tentatively planned for Saturday, January 27th. They are already working on the plans for this event.

And speaking of the Seventh Fleet 25th Anniversary, we are celebrating all year long. At the banquet we had a presentation giving us the different challenges that we are all participating in for 25th Anniversary Bingo. This was inspired by the Enterprise Bingo seen on the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds episode “Spock Amok“. To find out the details, head over to our special page located at Bingo.SeventhFleet.org. There you can see the explanations of the different challenges and how you can get credit for doing them. Don’t forget, if you post them to social media, use the hashtags of #7thFleet25 and #WeDoNotStandAlone.

The release date for season three of Star Trek: Picard is Thursday, February 16th. The latest trailers have come out and several Seventh Fleet members are really interested in watching the final season.

Hailing Frequencies Open January 2023

Welcome to the year 2023. It is a time of excitement as the new year brings a chance for new opportunities. We are saddened by the recent lost of Captain Roger Taylor, but we are looking forward to getting together to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the founding of Starfleet Command’s Seventh Fleet.

The 2023 Admiral’s Banquet will be held on Saturday, January 28th at the Richmond City building in Richmond, Utah. This uniformed (or nice dressed) event will start at Noon and is being hosted by the USS Valkyrie. We will be holding a memorial and gathering for photos. Chapters will present reports and music videos. This is a special event for members and their plus ones to gather and celebrate our Star Trek family.

To celebrate the 25th Anniversary, the Seventh Fleet will be planing a variant of Enterprise Bingo seen on the Star Trek: Strange New World episode “Spock Amok“. This yearlong event has twelve challenges with the titles listed below. If you complete five of the challenges, you will earn a BINGO. If you complete all twelve then you will earn a Blackout. You can complete one of the challenges by taking a photo with you doing the challenge. This can be sent/shown to your Commanding Officer, emailed to Bingo@SeventhFleet.org or posted on social media with the hashtag #7thFleet25 and #WeDoNotStandAlone. There will be a separate blog post with additional details.

Rest in Peace Roger Taylor (1970-2022)

On December 20, 2022, Captain Roger Taylor, Commanding Officer of the USS Essex, passed away in his Ogden, Utah apartment. After he had not responded to communications, a family member went to check on him only to discover his body. He had recently been experiencing heart issues which contributed to his passing.

Roger served in the US Navy. After retiring from the military, he served as a security guard at a Salt Lake area IT company. This is where he met several Seventh Fleet members who encouraged him to become a member. Besides Star Trek and gaming, he loved raising a bird named Charley, writing, playing video games, building military models and baking.

Roger joined the Seventh Fleet in 2008. With his Star Trek knowledge, his love of Star Trek role-playing games and writing, he quickly rose through the ranks. Eventually becoming the Executive Officer of the USS Retributor before moving onto command of the Essex.

When the Seventh Fleet was using the Decipher entry into the Star Trek Roleplaying Game, Captain Taylor wrote and co-wrote several guidebooks for member use. He also filled the Gamemaster duties for several chapters that wanted to hold RPG sessions. With the release of the Star Trek Adventures roleplaying game by Modiphius, Captain Taylor wrote several articles that were published on the Seventh Fleet blog and at the STA fan website, Continuing Mission. We have several more articles that have not been posted, but will be scheduled soon. Captain Taylor also ran and homebrewed for the Serenity roleplaying game as well.

Roger’s family have set up a GoFundMe page to help with funeral expenses. If you can, please donate. Remember: “We Do Not Stand Alone.” We would like to extend our deepest condolences to Roger’s family at this time.
