Hailing Frequencies Open December 2021

Wow, where has this year gone? It seemed like just last week was the Fourth of July celebration. All things considered, 2021 has been a much better year than (shudder) the year that shall not be named. With the help of vaccines and safety measures, we’ve been able to start having activities in person again. While we are not out of the woods yet, it is much better when we can see the members of our Star Trek family in person.

Orders for the 2022 Seventh Fleet Calendars are still being taken. The cost is still $10 an issue. To order one, get the money into your Commanding Officer no later than Saturday, December 18th. This calendar will have various fleet and chapter events listed. There is also listings for area conventions and holidays. 2022 will be the tenth year in a row that we will be publishing the Seventh Fleet calendar.

The first season of Star Trek: Prodigy is currently on break with the next episode coming out on January 6, 2022. The series has already been picked up for a second season. The fourth season of Star Trek: Discovery is currently airing with several interesting episodes so far. As of this blog post, we have not received air dates for the first season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds or the second season of Star Trek: Picard.

On a sad note, the Seventh Fleet would like to extend our personal condolences to Aaron Kehn for the loss of his mother in an automobile accident. We do not stand alone.

Please be safe for the holidays. We would like to see everyone on Saturday, January 22nd for the Admiral’s Banquet in Richmond, Utah.

Congratulations To:
Admiral Dennis Hollinger on the birth of his grandson on November 16th.
Seth Nielsen of the USS Valkyrie for promotion to the rank of Lt. Commander.

2022 Seventh Fleet Calendar

The cover image for the 2022 Seventh Fleet Calendar

2022 marks the 10th year we have been producing a Seventh Fleet calendar for members and friends of our fan club. In honor of this, Captain Ross Trowbridge has put together a special cover displaying all of the past calendar covers. We think he knocked it out of the park with the TOS bridge setting. Crewman Jeremy James of the USS Ticonderoga is once again doing the internal editing of the publication.

This publication is filled with photos and artwork put together by several Seventh Fleet members. This includes group events, computer artwork and a visit to the Star Trek Original Series Set Tour in Ticonderoga, New York. A lot of creativity will be on display in this calendar. There will also be dates listed for Fleet activities, monthly chapter meetings, local conventions, Star Trek premier anniversaries and various holidays from local, federal and Star Trek sources.

Thanks to our friends at Gordon’s Copy and Print, we will be able to offer the 2022 Seventh Fleet Calendar at the same price of $10 an issue. We are happy to be working with a local company to put this calendar together.

Orders are now being taken for the calendars. The due date for your order is Saturday, December 18th. Please have your money turned into your Commanding Officer by that date. If you have any questions, please contact your Commanding Officer.

Thank you again to all of the volunteers who helped put this together.

USS Pulsar launching ceremony

The USS Pulsar was able to hold their official launching ceremony on Saturday in Utah County. The club became a full chapter in 2020, but due to the pandemic, the party celebrating the efforts had to be delayed until 2021.

Vice Admiral Carl Stark (Commander-in-Chief of the Seventh Fleet) was able to perform the reading of orders and transfer of command. Captain Charles Corr and Captain Erica Stark performed the christening ceremony smashing bottles on the hull.

As you can see from the photos, a lot of energy and effort went into the launching ceremony. There was a lot of Star Trek themed food items available for the visitors to partake in.

Starfleet Command’s Seventh Fleet welcomes the members of the USS Pulsar into the Star Trek family. May you live long and prosper and we look forward to your many adventures.

Interviewed for Star Trek Day

Wednesday, September 8, 2021 will be the 55th Anniversary of the premier episode of Star Trek. For many fans, September 8th is now celebrated as Star Trek Day. Paramount presents several online panels and events. Fans get together and watch Star Trek episodes and local libraries have been putting up Star Trek Day displays.

Community radio station, KRCL 90.9FM has interviewed our Commander-in-Chief, Vice Admiral Carl Stark, for a special that will air on Star Trek Day. This interview is scheduled to be aired around the 6:30pm time frame. The livestream can be accessed here. We invite you to tune in and check out the interview.

Many thanks to the Thermians of Utah for setting up this interview and to KRCL 90.9 FM for the opportunity.

What are you planning to do for Star Trek Day? Let us know.

UPDATE: A recording of the interview can now be found online at the RadioACTive Show notes for September 8, 2021. The interview starts at the 27:40 mark.

Thank you to everyone who came out to the 2021 Fleet Day. We had a ton of fun meeting up with the members of our Star Trek family and seeing friends. It had been way too long since some of us had gotten together.

There are three items that we wanted to bring to your attention besides the usual assortment of news.

On Saturday, September 4th the USS Kelly will be celebrating it’s 35th Anniversary. This feat is amazing for several reasons. It shows the dedication and love that the members of the USS Kelly have put into their club. Through challenges and triumphs, the crew stuck together to reach the momentous occasion. They will be celebrating from 2:00 to 4:00pm at the Murry Park Pavilion #3. All are invited to attend. Bring your memories.

The very next Saturday on September 11th, the USS Pulsar will be holding an official launch ceremony. Technically the Pulsar launched as a full-chapter in 2020, however certain events prevented a get together to celebrate the accomplishment. Captain Joe Coleflesh has decided that they will get together at 2:00pm in Utah County. Please RSVP on the Facebook Page Event so that they can get a proper headcount for food.

FanX the Salt Lake Comic Convention will be held at the Salt Palace on September 16th to the 18th. There are a ton of guests. From the Star Trek series we will have the opportunity to see Zachary Quinto (Mr. Spock from the Kelvin movies) and Edward Furlong (Fixer on the Star Trek Renegades fan film series). There are also guests from Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, Supernatural, MASH, Doctor Who and more. The Seventh Fleet is planning to run a booth at the event raising money for The Best Friends Animal Society. (crosses fingers that all goes well)

Fleet Day 2021

Members of the Seventh Fleet at the 2019 Fleet Day.

Saturday, August 7th is the first Fleet Day that we will be having in person since 2019. We won’t talk about 2020, we just won’t since that year didn’t exist.

This event is open for anyone interested in the Fleet to attend. Feel free to bring friends. The events officially start at 10:00am but you can arrive as early as 9:00am.

The USS Ticonderoga is hosting the games of Fleet Day at Jesse D Barlow Park in Clearfield, Utah. The address is 2100 South 500 West. It will be held at the large bowery at the park. Folding chairs, water and sunscreen are recommended. There is a kids playground next to the bowery.

If you’ve attended a past Fleet Day, several of the popular games from the past will be making an appearance. This includes Pirate’s Dice, Shields, Design a Starship and the infamous Admiral’s Challenge.

New for this year will be a kickball tournament. The teams are Vulcan, Andorian, Borg and Klingon. You can sign up for the team that you would like to represent and all team members will be wearing a team hat created by the Ticonderoga crew. Sign ups are first come, first served.

The meal will be a Hot Dog bar. There will be regular, beef and turkey dogs. There will also be standard toppings (ketchup, mustard, relish, etc.) and chili and cheese. There will also be various side dishes and drinks.

This is one of the two main events for the Seventh Fleet. We hope to see everyone there.

Hailing Frequencies Open August 2021

August is here and it brings the close of summer before school starts. The members of the Seventh Fleet Council (the Admiralty, Commanding Officers and Executive Officers) have been working on various projects for our Star Trek family. Upcoming publications, a fan club booth at FanX, chapter banners, club awards and more. A lot of work goes into this club. It may look easy on the outside, but a lot time, energy and effort. Your help can make this club a better one. Even little things like helping with a newsletter or a website will go a long way in making your chapter a better one. If you would like to take some ownership within the club, please contact your department chief or executive officer.

We are getting very close to Fleet Day on August 7th. This will be held at Barlow Park in Clearfield, Utah. It is recommended that you bring water, folding chairs and sunscreen. We are looking forward to seeing members of our Star Trek family after the events (or lack there of) from the past year. This is one of our big fun events of the year.

Several theaters are airing a 35th Anniversary showing of Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home on August 19th. So far we know that the Megaplex Theaters and the AMC Theaters are hosing airings. A quick google search should give your information on airings near your location.

The USS Kelly will be holding a 35th Anniversary party on Saturday, September 6th at Murray Park. Come celebrate the longest running Star Trek fan club in Utah.

The USS Pulsar officially launched last year, however events (that we are all aware of) prevented an official launching ceremony. This will be rectified on Saturday, September 11th.

We are having a picnic

So we have an opportunity to finally get together as a group. The USS Rendezvous (who was scheduled to host the Admiral’s Banquet in January) volunteered to put together a Seventh Fleet Picnic. Basically we want to safely get together and see the members of our Star Trek family.

This will be held on Saturday, April 24th at noon. The location will be the Richmond City Park (address is 100 S. Highway 91, very near the city building that we’ve held past Admiral’s Banquets). Attendance is voluntary. The south pavilion is large enough that we can sit with social distance. Please wear a mask as well.

This will bring your own lunch event. There are several local grocery stores and restaurants. The following list was provided by Captain Knowlton.

Local Food Establishments:
-Richmond
Big J Burgers (Pizza, Mexican, Burgers, Fish)
Maverick
-Smithfield
McDonald’s
Wendy’s

No fooling, we have reached April. Hopefully, if everyone continues to follow the health guidelines, we can get together for a Seventh Fleet Picnic on the 24th of this month. Location to be announced. We do know that everyone will be bringing their own lunch and that some distances may still be maintained. But we would like to see everyone. As one Captain told me in March, we are sociable creatures by habit and we need to see our friends.
